Spacing: The Difference Between a Path and a Runway

Path lights are spaced so pools of light alternate along the walk, not so the fixtures form a continuous lit fence. Staggering fixtures side to side softens the runway effect and lights the walk’s edges evenly.
Fixture height and hat diameter set the pool size, which sets the spacing. Taller heads with wider hats cover more walk per fixture and usually look better in fewer numbers.
