Why Overhead Play Changes the Layout

A serve or a high set puts the ball twenty feet or more above the net, right where a badly placed fixture blinds the receiving player. Volleyball layouts keep fixtures off the service axis and mount them high enough that the source sits outside the upward sightline during normal play.
Uniformity matters across the air above the court, not just the sand or slab. That is what sports optics and correct aiming deliver that a general purpose floodlight cannot.

Sand Courts, Grass Courts and Hard Courts

The surface changes the pole engineering more than the light. Sand courts often need longer embedment or engineered bases, and beach-style installations deal with corrosion that standard finishes will not survive long term. Galvanized poles and sealed LED fixtures hold up where salt and moisture are part of the environment.

A single recreational court is a compact system. Leagues and multi-court facilities share poles between courts and step up mounting heights so the light carries across pads without hot spots at the shared lines.
