Well lights sit in the ground with only the lens showing, so the source disappears and all you see is the effect. They are ideal for uplighting trees and walls in a lawn where a stake mounted fixture would get hit by the mower, and for lighting the facade of a home from a flower bed without visible hardware.

Drainage and Installation
A well light needs somewhere for water to go. Set the fixture on a bed of gravel so rainwater drains away from the lens and the housing, and keep the top of the fixture slightly above the surrounding soil. Many fixtures include a sleeve or a mounting can to keep soil clear of the lens.
Lens, Output and Aim
Choose a lens rated for foot traffic if the light sits in a walkway or lawn. Adjustable internal optics let you tilt the beam toward a wall or trunk. Well lights come in both 12 volt and 120 volt versions; see our in-ground lighting range for larger fixtures.
Look for weatherproof, sealed housings in brass, bronze or composite, rated for the voltage of your system, and plan the wiring back to the transformer before you dig.
