What Is the Difference Between Traditional and Contemporary Fixtures?

Traditional and ornamental fixtures use the acorn, globe and lantern forms that read as historic. They suit town centers, historic districts and campuses where the pole is part of the streetscape character.
Contemporary and modern post tops use cleaner geometry and flatter optics. They tend to control light better because the optic is designed as a cutoff rather than as a glowing ornament.

Do Decorative Fixtures Light the Ground Well?

Some do and some do not. A classic acorn globe throws light in every direction, including up, so a large share of the output never reaches the pavement and the globe itself becomes the brightest thing in view.
Modern replacements keep the ornamental form but put a proper optic inside it, so the light goes down onto the walkway and the fixture still reads as traditional from a distance. If a scheme has to meet a light level or a dark sky rule, this distinction matters.

Can You Convert Existing HID Post Tops to LED?

Yes. HID to LED conversion keeps the pole and the decorative housing and replaces what is inside. That protects the streetscape appearance and the existing infrastructure while cutting energy and maintenance.
It is usually the cheapest route to better light in a historic district, because the poles and housings are often the expensive and hard to match part.

What Replacement Parts Are Available?

Globes crack, yellow and get vandalized, and they are the part most often needed. Replacement globes are stocked in acorn and prismatic forms and in several sizes.
Replacement post tops cover the case where the fixture head has failed but the pole is sound. Matching the globe fitter size and the post top mounting is what decides fit, so measure before ordering.
