Where lighting ideas turn into real lighting solutions

Residential Lighting

Lamps, indoor fixtures and landscape lights for homes, from the kitchen counter to the back fence.

A home asks the same things of its lighting that a commercial building does: enough light where you work, softer light where you relax, a color that flatters the space, and fixtures that keep running without constant attention. This section brings together the lamps, indoor fixtures and landscape lights that homeowners, builders and remodelers ask us for most, organized the way a project is actually planned. Start with the room or the part of the yard, choose the fixture type, then match the lamp. If you want a second opinion on a layout or a part number, call us at (281) 972-5006 and talk it through.

Plan Light in Layers, Room by Room

MR16 Copper Hanging Light 12" Copper Pole

Good residential lighting is built in three layers. Ambient light fills the room from overhead fixtures. Task light puts brightness where hands are busy, like a kitchen counter or a reading chair. Accent light adds depth by washing a wall, a shelf or a piece of art.

Most rooms feel flat because they rely on one layer alone. Pair recessed or surface mounted fixtures with undercounter lights in the kitchen, sconces in the hallway and a table lamp in the living room, and the same square footage suddenly feels finished.

Energy efficient LED lamps and fixtures deliver more illumination per watt than older technologies, and dimmable models let one fixture cover bright task light and soft evening light.

Choosing a Color Temperature for a Home

Color temperature is measured in Kelvin. Around 2700K reads as the warm glow of a traditional incandescent bulb and suits living rooms and bedrooms. 3000K is a slightly crisper soft white that works well in kitchens and bathrooms. Anything above 4000K starts to feel like an office, which is useful in a garage or workshop but rarely wanted in a living space.

Keeping one color temperature across connected rooms makes a home feel consistent. Our LED color temperature guide shows the full range side by side.

Inside and Outside From One Supplier

The same planning applies outdoors. Path lights guide the way, directional lights lift trees and walls, well lights hide below grade, and step lights make stairs safe after dark. Low voltage systems run on a transformer, so wattage and wire gauge need to be matched to the run.

Our low voltage wire calculator and our range of landscape transformers help you size the system before you dig.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most homeowners prefer 2700K in living areas and bedrooms and 3000K in kitchens and bathrooms. Keep connected rooms at the same temperature so the light looks consistent.

In most cases, yes. Match the base, the shape and the voltage of the lamp you are replacing, and check that the LED lamp is rated for enclosed or wet locations if the fixture requires it.

Many are, but not all. Look for a lamp marked dimmable and pair it with an LED compatible dimmer to avoid flicker or buzzing.
