What Hazardous Location Means

Classified areas are defined by what is in their air: flammable vapors, gases or combustible dusts, in classes and divisions defined by code. Fixtures for those areas are constructed so internal heat and any electrical event stay contained, and they carry the certification markings that prove it.
Which class and division applies to your area is determined by your facility’s classification drawings, and the fixture must match it. That match is a compliance requirement, not a preference.
