Canless Recessed Lighting

Ultra thin wafer lights that give the recessed look without a housing.

Canless lights, often called wafer lights, deliver the look of recessed lighting with no can at all. The fixture itself is about an inch thick and connects to a small remote junction box that sits beside it in the ceiling. That makes canless lighting a strong choice for remodels, ceilings with shallow joists or ductwork overhead, and projects where speed of installation matters.

Why Choose Canless

LED Recessed Panel Light (2 x 2) 41 Watts 3000K (Warm)

With no housing to fit, canless lights install through a simple round cut and clip to the drywall. They avoid the conflicts with joists, pipes and ducts that often rule out traditional cans, and most are rated for insulation contact.

Because the fixture is sealed, canless lights also help limit air leakage into the attic compared with older open cans.

The wiring runs to the remote junction box, which also holds the driver, so installation can be done entirely from below the ceiling. Most canless lights are dimmable, and a 6 inch model commonly delivers about 650 to 1,000 lumens.

Choosing Size and Color

Four inch wafers suit hallways and accent lighting, while six inch wafers are the usual choice for general room lighting. Many models offer selectable color temperature, so one fixture can be set to 2700K, 3000K or cooler on site.

Check the trim style, round or square, and the finish before ordering, since the trim is the only part that shows.
