Where lighting ideas turn into real lighting solutions

Flag Lights

Fixtures that keep a flag properly illuminated from dusk to dawn.

Flag lights keep a flag visible and respectfully displayed after dark. Under the United States Flag Code, a flag flown around the clock should be properly illuminated during the hours of darkness, and a dedicated fixture is the simplest way to do it. Residential flag lighting usually comes in two forms: uplights at the base of the pole, or fixtures mounted to the pole itself.

Ground Mounted or Pole Mounted

Ground mounted fixtures sit at the base of the pole and aim upward. They are easy to install and service, and on a shorter residential pole one or two fixtures usually cover the flag as it moves in the wind. Pole mounted rings attach partway up the pole and aim fixtures up at the flag, which keeps light off the yard and neighbors.

Getting Full Coverage

A flag moves around the pole as the wind shifts, so light it from more than one side, or use a beam wide enough to follow it. Taller poles need narrower beams and more output. Warm or neutral white keeps colors true.

Choose weatherproof fixtures and a photocell so the flag is lit from dusk to dawn without anyone flipping a switch. On taller poles, a narrower beam angle pushes light higher up the flag.
