A plain clock timer switches lights on in daylight every summer and late every winter unless someone resets it. The CLS HB880R is the Intermatic HB880R astronomic timer, which tracks seasonal sunrise and sunset automatically and lives outdoors in a rainproof enclosure.
Astronomic timer or photocell: which should I use?
A photocell reacts to light and needs a clear view of the sky. An astronomic timer calculates sunset and sunrise, so it works wherever it is mounted, and it can turn lights off at a set hour instead of running until dawn. It adjusts for Daylight Saving Time without a reset, and a backup battery is listed.
How many schedules and circuits can it handle?
Up to 14 independent on/off events per day, on a 24 hour or 7 day schedule. Two grounded receptacles let you control more than one lighting run from the same timer, and the 15 amp rating covers up to 1000W of tungsten or landscape motor loads.
Can it be mounted outside?
Yes. The enclosure is UV resistant and rainproof, rated IP44, and operates from -40°C to 50°C on 120V AC.
