Four watts is where the LL16 series moves from garden accents to real features: a Japanese maple, a pair of entry columns, a monument sign or a statue that should read from the street. The CLS LL164 produces 360 lumens on 4 watts, and CLS lists it as a replacement for a 20 watt halogen MR16.
Why so many beam choices on the 4 watt?
From 4 watts up, the LL16 lamps come in 15, 30, 45, 60 and 100 degree beams. The 15 degree beam keeps the light tight on a narrow trunk or column. Mid beams of 30 and 45 degrees suit most small trees and statuary, while 60 and 100 degrees spread across a planting or a section of wall. Choose the beam, plus 2700K or 3000K, when you order.
Do you need the LL164, or will the 2 or 5 watt lamp do?
The 2 watt LL162 gives 180 lumens, half the output, and fits shrubs and low beds. The 5 watt LL165 adds another 90 lumens and is matched by CLS to a 35 watt halogen, a better fit for medium trees. If a feature looks right at 20 watts of halogen today, the LL164 is the like-for-like swap.
What keeps it reliable in a sealed fixture?
A die-cast aluminum heat sink, IP65 sealing and thermo protection, with a rated life of 50,000 hours at L70.
