Where lighting ideas turn into real lighting solutions

Outdoor Hanging Lights

Pendants, hanging lanterns and tree-hung fixtures for porches, pergolas and canopies.

Hanging fixtures bring light down from structure: porch ceilings, pergolas, pavilions, and the canopies of mature trees. The effect is different from ground-mounted lighting, softer, more like room light outdoors, and it is the layer that makes an outdoor space feel finished after dark. Our range runs from classic hanging lanterns to tree-hung fixtures.

Porches, Pergolas and Pavilions

Overhead structure is an invitation to hang light. A pendant at an entry sets the house’s tone at night, and fixtures hung through a pergola turn it from a silhouette into a destination. Mounting height follows headroom and the fixture’s glare behavior, lower and softer over seating, higher over circulation.
Wet-rated versus damp-rated matters here: an open pergola fixture takes rain directly and must be rated for it, while a covered porch can use damp-rated hardware.

Moonlighting From Trees

Fixtures hung high in a mature tree and aimed down through the branches produce moonlighting, dappled, natural pools of light with the branch shadows moving in them. It is the most organic effect in landscape lighting and one of the most efficient, one fixture covering a large area beautifully.
Hardware matters for the tree’s sake: standoff mounts and cabling that allow for growth, placed where the fixture can be serviced.

Powering Overhead Fixtures

Structure-mounted fixtures usually run on the building’s circuits, switched or automated like any exterior light. Tree-mounted moonlighting typically runs low voltage from the landscape transformer, with wire routed up the back of the trunk.
Every overhead fixture also gets its own weight and mounting check, because a hanging fixture is only as good as what it hangs from.
