Constant Current or Constant Voltage

The two driver families are not interchangeable. Constant current drivers feed LED modules directly and are matched by output current and voltage window. Constant voltage drivers feed 12 or 24 volt systems, tape runs and fixtures that regulate themselves.
The failed driver’s label carries everything needed to match it: input, output type, current or voltage, and wattage. Photograph it before ordering and matching is simple.

Dimming Compatibility

Dimmable LED systems fail at the pairing, not usually at either component: a driver and a dimmer that do not speak the same dimming method flicker, pop or refuse to dim low. Match the driver’s dimming type to the control on the wall.

Why Fixtures Die and Drivers Save Them

Heat is the killer of drivers, which is why they fail before diode arrays do. A fixture that goes dark, flickers or hums after years of service usually needs a driver, not a dumpster. Swapping the driver returns the fixture to service for a fraction of replacement.
