A hinged light pole folds down. The pole pivots at a hinged base so the fixture can be lowered to ground level for lamp changes, cleaning and repairs with no bucket truck and no lift rental. That makes hinged poles the standard answer for sites where service access is hard or recurring, such as gated areas, landscaping beds and remote lots. This group runs 15 to 30 feet, square straight steel, hot dip galvanized, in 7 and 11 gauge combinations.

Lowering the head also makes storm checks practical. After high winds, look over the fixture bracket, mounting hardware and pole wall for corrosion or impact damage, and inspect the concrete foundation for large cracks or lost aggregate. Our article on light pole wind ratings in hurricane areas explains what to look for and why it matters in hurricane regions.

A hinge does not change the wind math. The fixture and bracket EPA still has to fit inside the pole’s rating at your design wind speed, so specify the height, the 7 or 11 gauge wall, and either a standard 2 3/8 inch tenon or a drilling position measured from the hand hole when you request a quote.

The four things to weigh when choosing a pole: height and light distribution, material, EPA wind rating and LED compatibility.
