Broad front walks and entry gardens need a path light with enough hat to spread light across the whole width. The CLS PL79B carries a 12 inch umbrella shade on an 18 inch stem, standing 21 inches tall overall in solid cast brass with an Antique Bronze finish. It is one of the larger fixtures in the CLS Classic Series.
What does a 12 inch hat do for the light pattern?
A wide shade pushes the light down and out in a broad circle, so fewer fixtures can cover a generous walkway and the lamp stays hidden from view. The frosted tempered glass lens softens the source so the pool of light reads evenly on pavers or mulch.
Which lamp goes in it?
The socket is a G4 bi-pin. CLS rates it for a G4 LED lamp up to 4 watts or a halogen up to 20 watts. With an LED lamp the transformer load stays small, which matters on long runs with many fixtures.
Total the lamp wattage on the run, leave headroom on the transformer, and check voltage drop before choosing wire gauge.
