Picking a beam spread before you have seen the target at night is guesswork, and stocking four lamp types for every fixture adds up quickly. The CLS CLL165 is an MR16 LED that comes with multiple lenses, so the installer can switch between 15, 30, 45 and 60 degrees at the fixture until the light lands exactly where it should.
Which lens should I start with for a tree versus a wall?
The narrow 15 and 30 degree lenses push light up slender trunks, flagpoles and columns. The 45 and 60 degree lenses spread wider for broad canopies, hedges and wall washing. Start with a middle lens on the first evening, then go narrower or wider once you can see the result.
How bright is the 5 watt lamp?
CLS rates the CLL165 at 5 watts and 450 lumens, which it compares to a 35 watt halogen MR16. It uses a standard GU5.3 bi-pin base, runs on 9 to 17 volts AC and is offered in 2700K or 3000K, chosen when ordering.
Will it hold up inside a sealed fixture?
The body is die-cast aluminum to carry heat out of the lamp, which counts in enclosed bullets and in-ground wells. It carries an IP54 rating against moisture and dust and dims with most magnetic transformers.
