CLS LL161 Waterproof MR16 LED Bulb 1W

Some fixtures sit only a few feet from what they light: a boxwood by the front step, a birdbath, a planter against a wall. At that distance a strong lamp flattens everything, and that is the job for the CLS LL161. It draws 1 watt and gives 90 lumens, which CLS lists as the counterpart to a 10 watt halogen MR16.

Is 1 watt really enough for an accent light?

For close work, yes. Ninety lumens on a small shrub or a piece of garden art reads as a gentle glow rather than a hot spot, and it keeps each run lightly loaded.

The LL161 comes in 15, 30, 45, 60 or 100 degree beams, from narrow beams that pick out a single plant to a 100 degree beam that spreads across a low bed. You choose the beam and the color temperature, 2700K or 3000K, when you order.

When should you step up to a higher wattage in the LL16 series?

If the target is taller than a person or sits well back from the fixture, 1 watt will look dim. The 2 watt LL162 doubles the output to 180 lumens, and the 4, 5 and 7 watt lamps run from 360 to 600 lumens for small trees and wall features. A 6 watt LL166 is sold on its own page.

How does it survive a closed fixture?

A die-cast aluminum body pulls heat from the LEDs, and the lamp is water resistant, thermo protective and rated IP65.
