Not every lot needs a 360W head. The 150W Type III gives you the same wide, sideways spread that suits parking stalls, in a lower wattage that fits shorter poles, small retail pads, church and office lots, and the back corners of larger sites. LED Spot stocks it in a standard mount in 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, with a bronze or white finish and multi-tap input. It is also the head used in our LED parking lot lighting kits with pole and base. A practical rule at the counter: if your existing poles are on the short side, start your comparison here before stepping up in wattage.

Is the 150W Type III enough light for your lot?
Wattage should follow pole height and spacing. Here is how to tell if 150W is the right size.
- Pole height. Shorter poles put the fixture closer to the pavement, so a lower wattage avoids glare and bright spots under the pole.
- Lot size. Small pads, side lots and drive-through lanes often need more poles at lower wattage rather than a few large heads.
- Only the light you need. Dark sky guidance asks for the lowest wattage that still meets the required light level. Overlighting a small lot adds glare and spill without making it safer. See our summary of dark sky lighting guidelines.
- Color temperature. 3000K keeps it calm near residential edges, 4000K is the balanced choice for most businesses, and 5000K gives the crispest white.
- Replacing old fixtures. Count the existing poles and note their height. That tells us more about the right wattage than the old lamp rating does. Older HID heads on short poles were heavy with ballasts and reflectors, so a 150W LED head usually lightens the pole load; read how LED fixtures changed pole wind ratings.
If the poles themselves need replacing, see our straight square steel light poles.
150W Type III Questions
It suits smaller parking lots, shorter poles and areas where a larger fixture would overlight the pavement. The Type III spread still reaches stalls and aisles from a perimeter pole. Many owners use it on side lots and back rows of a bigger property.
LED Spot carries the 150W Type III in 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. Each comes in bronze or white. Pick one color temperature for the whole site so the light looks consistent.
Yes. This area light is the fixture used in our LED parking lot lighting kits, which also include the pole and base. A kit is the simpler route if you are lighting a new lot from scratch.
That depends on pole height, spacing and the light level you want on the ground. A rough count is easy, but a photometric layout gives you a number you can build to. Photometric design is available on request.
Yes, and small church, office and retail lots are good candidates because they often sit empty for hours. A photocell turns the lights on at dusk, a timer can shut off rows nobody needs after closing, and an occupancy sensor can bring light up when a car pulls in. Our guide to cutting light pollution with LED controls lists the options.
