Aluminum and decorative light poles cover the applications where the pole is part of the look: storefronts, walkways, plazas, HOA entries and period style site lighting. The group includes the CL series decorative aluminum poles in 3 to 5 inch smooth and fluted shafts, commercial lampposts in smooth and fluted profiles, and a surface mount straight aluminum pole. Aluminum never needs galvanizing, weighs far less than steel for the same height, and takes a painted finish well.

Aluminum’s natural corrosion resistance makes it a strong fit near the ocean, where airborne salt works on steel. It is less impact resistant than steel and carries less weight, so aluminum poles carry lower EPA ratings and suit lighter fixture packages. Post top fixtures are the natural match: LED Spot’s chart lists a Lifestyle Small post top at an EPA of 1.1 and a Lifestyle Medium at 1.3, compared with 2.7 and 3.1 for a double 180 bracket. LED heads help too, since they carry no ballast or heavy reflector.

If the site has heavy vehicle traffic close to the poles, or calls for multiple heads per pole, compare options in our guide on choosing the right parking lot pole and confirm the pairing with the pole selection guide.

Light Pole Guides and Resources

A step-by-step checklist for a complete light pole order, from pole type and height to shaft size and wall gauge.

How to choose a pole: pick the fixture and bracket, look up the fixture EPA, then match pole height to the wind load at your site.

The four things to weigh when choosing a pole: height and light distribution, material, EPA wind rating and LED compatibility.

What a fixture EPA wind rating means and when it decides which pole, arm and fixture combination will work.
