A full front elevation, a long walkway or a commercial planting strip can eat a 100 foot roll before the last fixture. The CLS LLC12250 puts 250 feet of 12/2 landscape cable on one roll, with solid copper conductors, flame retardant PVC insulation and a sunlight resistant jacket.
Why buy the 250 foot roll instead of two 100s?
Fewer splices in the ground. Every connection is a spot where moisture can work in over time, so a continuous run from the transformer to the end of the zone is the cleaner build. The longer roll also covers several medium runs on one job.
Is 12 gauge right for a commercial planting strip?
It is the common middle choice. It handles a string of LED path lights or accent spots over moderate distances. On a very long run, or one with higher wattage floods at the far end, check whether 10 gauge or splitting the load gives better voltage at the last fixture.
Does the cable need protection in the trench?
CLS rates it for direct burial without conduit, and the sunlight resistant jacket handles the short sections that stay above grade at the transformer and fixture leads.
