Short branches off a hub, a single accent near the transformer, or a tight bed by the front door do not need heavy wire. The CLS LLC14100 is 14/2 low voltage landscape cable on a 100 foot roll, with solid copper conductors, flame retardant PVC insulation and a matte black finish that disappears in mulch.
Where does 14 gauge make sense on a landscape system?
Use it where the load is light and the distance is short: a pair of path lights at a step, a couple of LED spots in a planter, or the leads from a hub to nearby fixtures. It is easier to pull and bend than heavier cable, which helps in tight beds and along hardscape edges.
When should I move up a gauge instead?
If the run is long or carries several fixtures, voltage drop starts to show as dimmer or warmer looking lamps at the end of the line. That is the point to move the main run to 12 or 10 gauge and keep 14 gauge for the short branches.
Can it be buried directly?
Yes. CLS rates it for outdoor use and direct burial, and the insulation is UV and moisture resistant. It is compatible with standard low voltage landscape components.
