Where lighting ideas turn into real lighting solutions

360W LED Type III Area Lights

A 360W Type III fixture that throws a wide, even pool of light inward from poles along the edge of a lot.

Type III is the workhorse distribution for parking lots. The beam pushes outward and to the sides, so a pole set near the perimeter can light the stalls in front of it as well as the drive aisle. At 360 watts, this fixture is sized for taller poles and larger lots where you want fewer poles carrying more area. LED Spot stocks it in 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, in bronze or white, and it accepts 120-277V input. When you order, match the color temperature across every pole on the property; mixing tones on one lot is the most common complaint we hear after a retrofit. Read our LED color temperature guide if you are unsure which one fits.

How do you choose the right 360W Type III for a parking lot?

Type III gives you the most flexibility on a typical commercial lot. These are the choices that change the result.

  • Color temperature. 3000K is the gentlest on neighbors and night sky, 4000K is the common middle ground for retail and offices, and 5000K suits sites that want the brightest white for cameras. If your city has a dark sky ordinance, 3000K is usually the safe pick, since that is the ceiling those rules tend to reference.
  • Pole height. A 360W head is usually paired with taller poles. Putting it on a short pole tends to create hot spots under the fixture and glare for drivers.
  • Spacing from the edge. Set poles along the perimeter or in landscape islands, aimed into the lot. Wider spacing works as height increases, but a layout tells you exactly how far.
  • Reusing tall poles. Swapping a large metal halide shoebox for this head on the same pole usually lowers the load on it, because the LED fixture drops the heavy ballast and reflector. Compare the head’s EPA with the pole’s rating, and read how LED lighting affects wind ratings for why it matters in hurricane regions.
  • Finish. Bronze and white are both in stock, so match existing poles to keep the site consistent.

360W Type III Questions

Type III sends light forward and to the sides in a wide, roughly oval pattern. A pole on the perimeter can light the stalls in front of it plus part of the aisle. That reach is why it is the most common choice for general parking areas.

This group includes 3000K warm, 4000K neutral and 5000K cool. Choose 3000K when the lot borders homes or the city asks for warmer light. Choose 4000K or 5000K when visibility and camera footage are the priority.

The 360W Type III is listed as 120-277V compatible. That range covers most commercial lighting circuits in the US. If your site runs 480V, call us before ordering.

The 150W version suits shorter poles, smaller lots and spots where a 360W head would be more light than the area needs. The 360W is for larger lots where you want to space poles farther apart. A photometric layout settles the question if you are between the two.

Some, because a Type III spreads to the sides and puts a little light behind the pole. On the row that faces a fence line or a home, many layouts switch to Type IV and keep Type III for poles that look inward across open parking. Mounting the head level also keeps light below the horizon.

Metal halide lamps lose output and shift color as they age, and near the end they cycle on and off. An LED head holds its output much more steadily, so the lot stays evenly lit between maintenance visits. Our LED parking lot lighting overview explains why.
