LED C9 bulbs are the larger classic holiday bulb, sized to stay visible on rooflines, parapets, tall trees and building edges viewed from the street. They screw into an E17 intermediate base, the socket used on C9 strings and C9 reels. How do you pick C9 LED bulbs for a commercial display?

Think about viewing distance, color plan and finish together.

  • Viewing distance. C9 bulbs suit outlines seen from a road, a parking area or across a campus. For eye-level work such as door frames, the smaller C7 size often looks better.
  • Color plan. Warm white suits traditional and brick properties, pure white suits contemporary facades, and solid colors or assorted packs (5 each of blue, green, orange, red and yellow) give a classic multicolor look.
  • Finish. Faceted bulbs add sparkle, smooth transparent bulbs give a bright clear glow, and smooth ceramic bulbs give an even opaque color. Not every color comes in every finish, so check each listing.
  • Power and controls. These LED C9 bulbs are dimmable and use about 10 percent of the wattage of incandescent bulbs, which keeps long runs light on the circuit and easy to put on a timer.

Covering a long roofline? Pair the bulbs with a 1000 ft C9 string reel and cut each run to fit.

Plan one bulb per socket. The 1000 ft C9 reels hold 800, 1000 or 2000 sockets, which equals 32, 40 or 80 packs of 25. For prebuilt strings, check the socket count on each listing and round up to the next full pack.
