Round Pole Tenon Adaptors

Steel sleeves that fit over a round pole top and give slipfitter fixtures a 2-3/8 inch tenon to mount on.

A round pole tenon adaptor turns the open top of a round pole into a 2-3/8 inch OD tenon, the mounting stub most slipfitter fixtures and bull horns are built to grab. You need one when a pole came with a drilled arm pattern or no top fitting, or when you are swapping old heads for LED fixtures that mount by slipfitter. LED Spot stocks steel tubing adaptors for 3, 4, 5 and 6 inch round poles in black, bronze, US green and white, with custom colors on request. On a tapered pole, size the adaptor to the outside diameter at the very top, not at the base. They pair well with round tapered steel light poles.

How Do You Size a Tenon Adaptor for a Round Pole?

Most fit problems come from measuring the wrong spot, so check these four things before you order.

  • Measure the top OD. Wrap a tape around the pole right at the top, divide the circumference by 3.14, and match the result to the 3, 4, 5 or 6 inch size. A tapered pole is noticeably smaller at the top than at the base.
  • Confirm the fixture slipfitter. The adaptor ends in a 2-3/8 inch OD tenon. Check the fixture spec sheet to be sure its slipfitter is made for that tenon size.
  • Plan the fixture count. One adaptor carries one fixture by itself, or it becomes the base for a bull horn or horizontal tenon adaptor that holds two to four heads. On LED Spot’s fixture EPA chart, one Lifestyle Small head on a post top reads 1.1, while a quad 90 cluster reads 4.1, so the head count on that 2-3/8 inch tenon sets the pole EPA you need. Our pole selection guide walks through the match.
  • Match the finish. Order the same color as the pole so the joint blends in from the ground.

Round Tenon Adaptors Questions

Each adaptor ends in a 2-3/8 inch outside diameter tenon. That is the common size for slipfitter fixtures, bull horns and horizontal tenon adaptors. Confirm your fixture’s slipfitter size on its spec sheet before ordering.

Pick the size that matches the outside diameter at the top of your pole. Use calipers, or measure the circumference and divide by 3.14. If your number lands between sizes, send us the pole maker and height and we will help sort it out.

Yes. Stack a bull horn or a horizontal tenon adaptor onto the adaptor’s tenon to carry two, three or four heads. Every fixture you add raises the wind load (EPA) on the pole, so check the pole rating against the full assembly.

They are steel tubing with a painted finish in black, bronze, US green or white. Custom colors can be requested. On sites near the coast, touch up any scratched paint so rust does not get a start.

Confirm the fixture slipfitter fits a 2-3/8 inch OD tenon, decide how many heads the pole will carry, and compare that fixture EPA with the pole’s rated EPA at your wind speed. Most poles can take LED heads, and LED fixtures usually weigh less than the metal halide heads they replace.
