Square Pole Tenon Adaptors
Steel adaptors that sleeve over a square pole top so slipfitter fixtures and bull horns have a round tenon to grab.

Square poles are often drilled for arm-mounted fixtures, so a square pole tenon adaptor is what lets you put a slipfitter fixture, a set of bull horns or a horizontal tenon adaptor on top instead. The adaptor fits over the square shaft and finishes in a round 2-3/8 inch tenon. LED Spot carries steel adaptors for 3, 4, 5 and 6 inch square poles in black, bronze, US green and white, plus a 2.5 inch item (LS-TN2) in limited quantity. Measure flat to flat across one face at the top of the pole, never corner to corner, before picking a size. Replacing the pole too? See our straight square steel light poles.

Which Square Pole Tenon Adaptor Fits Your Pole?
A square adaptor has to match the shaft on the flats, so get these details right first.
- Measure flat to flat. Hold a tape square across one face at the top of the pole. A corner to corner reading runs about 40 percent larger and leads to the wrong size.
- Check tapered shafts at the top. A tapered square pole narrows as it rises, so the base dimension on the drawing will not match the top.
- Clear the top of the pole. The adaptor needs the open shaft, so plan to pull the pole cap and note any arm mounting holes you will leave unused.
- Plan the fixture count. The adaptor’s 2-3/8 inch tenon can carry one slipfitter head or a bull horn with two to four. On LED Spot’s fixture EPA chart a Lifestyle Small head reads 1.1 on a post top and 4.1 in a quad 90 cluster, so check the pole against the count you plan. Our pole selection guide lists the steps.
- Ask about color on the 4 inch. The 3, 5 and 6 inch sizes list black, bronze, US green and white, while the 4 inch listing shows no color choice, so confirm the finish when you quote it.
For tapered shafts, our square steel tapered light poles list top dimensions to make sizing easier.
Square Tenon Adaptors Questions
No. The sleeve is square and only seats on a square shaft. Round poles need a round pole tenon adaptor, which LED Spot stocks in 3 to 6 inch sizes.
Measure straight across one flat face at the top of the pole. Do not measure across the corners, which reads much larger. Match that flat dimension to the 3, 4, 5 or 6 inch adaptor.
The 2-3/8 inch tenon takes a slipfitter fixture directly, or a square or round bull horn, a horizontal tenon adaptor, or a knuckle or yoke tenon mount. That makes it the usual first part when converting an arm-mount square pole to slipfitter heads.
The 2.5 inch item (LS-TN2) is listed in limited quantity. Check stock with us before you design a job around it, and confirm whether your pole or tenon is the 2.5 inch dimension.
It can lower it. On LED Spot’s fixture EPA chart, a Lifestyle Small fixture reads 1.6 on a single arm and 1.1 as a post top, and a Lifestyle Medium fixture reads 1.8 and 1.3. Adding a bull horn with more heads raises it again, so run the numbers for the final layout against the pole’s rated EPA at your wind speed. Why EPA wind ratings matter covers the reasoning.
