What Size Christmas Tree Does the Space Need?

Start with the ceiling, not the tree. Measure floor to ceiling, subtract the stand and any topper, then leave 6 to 12 inches of clearance. A 20 ft atrium ceiling takes a tree of about 19 ft. Outdoors, size to the setting: a tree in an open plaza has to compete with the buildings around it, so it usually needs more height than you expect.

Stocked trees run from 6 ft Norwood Pines for lobbies up to 40 ft Grand Teton frame trees for town centers, with Grand Teton offered in every 2 ft step from 12 to 40 ft. Our commercial Christmas tree size guide walks through ceiling, clearance and profile choices in more detail. Also check door width for delivery and where the tree will be stored for the other eleven months.

Should You Buy Pre-Lit or Unlit?

Pre-lit commercial Christmas trees come wired for their electrical load, with the wiring run inside the limbs so there are fewer cords on the floor and fewer trip hazards around the base. The 37 pre-lit trees we stock run from 7.5 to 40 ft in warm white, and many sizes also come in multi-color.

Unlit commercial Christmas trees cost less and give you full control over where the lights go, which suits displays that change color or theme from year to year. The 29 unlit trees run from 6 to 40 ft. Pair them with our commercial grade LED Christmas lights or C7 and C9 strings.

Order Early: Lead Times for Commercial Trees

Commercial Christmas buying starts in early spring, not in November. Trees under 40 ft typically ship in about 30 days from order. We recommend planning to have your tree on site by July 1, which leaves time to check the parts, plan power and schedule the crew before the season.

Large wreaths and long garland runs should be ordered at the same time as the tree. When the whole display arrives together, the greens match and nothing is waiting on a late shipment in December.

Wreaths and Garland for the Rest of the Property

Large wreaths, usually anything over 60 in., go above mall entrances and on building walls, where a door-size wreath disappears. Cheyenne Pine and Grand Teton wreaths run up to 144 in., Oregon Fir up to 84 in., and Frosted Lacey from 24 to 48 in. for interiors. Most sizes come pre-lit or unlit.

Garland carries the display over doorways, along railings and around columns. Matching the needle style across the tree, the wreaths and the garland, such as Grand Teton or Oregon Fir throughout, is what makes a property read as one planned display. Garland for doorways and entries should be pre-ordered with the rest of the order.

What Holiday Lighting Do Commercial Sites Use?

Rooflines, awnings and building edges usually take C9 light strings, the larger bulb that reads from the street. C7 light strings suit storefront windows, railings and smaller trees seen up close. Both are sold as empty socket strings or as 1,000 ft C9 reels and 1,000 ft C7 reels, then lamped with LED bulbs in packs of 25.

LED bulbs draw about 10 percent of the wattage of incandescent bulbs and run cooler, so more lights fit on a circuit and timers and controls work the same way. Choose LED C9 bulbs or LED C7 bulbs in smooth, ceramic or faceted finishes, and replace single bulbs instead of whole strings.
